Three things to know when practicing with Tawnja Cleveland:

1. Meets you where you are at in the moment with love and kindness

2. Teaches you to listen, learn and love the inner you

3. Celebrates the breath as a powerful tool for healing and overall wellness

Tawnja graduated Kashi Atlanta's 200-Hour Classical Yoga Teacher Training in 2014, apprenticed for a year after graduation, and now teaches slow, satisfying yoga with breath exercises and meditation. She sometimes faces challenges in her yoga practice. Her philosophy with challenging yoga poses is to modify standard poses to have a fulfilling and strong overall practice. She teaches students to modify where necessary for their own bodies.

Tawnja believes yoga is true medicine, as she witnesses healing everyday in her life. In 2008, she suffered a massive stroke and has been on the path of wellness ever since. She realized she needed to try something new for recovery, and turned to yoga! First, at home; eventually, in class. Always, modified.

Tawnja met her teacher, Swami Jaya Devi Bhagavati, in 2013 and continues to study with her today. She has also taught classes at Stone Summit Atlanta, Cove at Concord Park in Knoxville, Tennessee, and Spelman College Museum of Fine Arts.
