Miriam Phields, PhD

RYT 200

Dr. Miriam Phields is an advocate of conscious wellness and self-care through yoga postures, yogic breathing, and meditation. As a registered yoga teacher, her approach to yoga instruction emphasizes teaching with modifications to make yoga poses accessible to all bodies with varying levels of flexibility and strength. Having begun her love affair with yoga in her fifties, she has a special interest in encouraging yoga for older bodies to increase balance, strength and flexibility. Miriam teaches an online yoga class for women age 40 and older as well as teaching classes and private sessions around the Atlanta metropolitan area.

Miriam believes that all bodies are yoga bodies, regardless of age, size, hue, flexibility or strength. Start wherever you are to begin or continue your yoga journey. The only flexibility that you need to get started is an open mind. It’s never too late to start. And don’t worry, you’re not too [fill in the blank] to do yoga!

Miriam completed Kashi Atlanta's 200-Hour Classical Yoga Teacher Training in 2019 and began Kashi’s Apprentice program immediately after. She continues spiritual study and practice with Swami Jaya Devi. Miriam is also a sound bath practitioner who uses quartz crystal singing bowls and other sound instruments to facilitate healing and meditation through vibration. She completed teacher certifications in Yin Yoga with Douglas Johnson and Yoga Nidra studying under Chitra Sukhu. She holds a PhD in counseling psychology from the University of Maryland. Miriam has worked in the field of HIV prevention for over 30 years.
