Day 5: Soothing Self Massage

Today’s practice for the pandemic is abhyanga, an Ayurvedic self-massage using warm oil that is a deeply calming, soothing remedy for healing the nervous system. Abhyanga is all about self-love, self-compassion and body awareness. This richly soothing rub works efficiently to deliver calm and balance when you’re revved up or out of whack. It helps regulate your elimination, blood circulation, and most especially, your nervous system. The warm heavy quality of the oil calms frazzled nerve endings just under your skin. Then, the hot bath or shower helps the oil penetrate deeply into your skin, leaving you refreshed, lubricated and resoundingly present.
