Stand Up Paddleboard Yoga (Evening)

Bring your open mind, open heart, your breath and your laugh and be prepared to get wet during this 2.5 hour workshop that will take Kali Natha Yoga to the water on stand up paddleboards (SUP) at Stone Mountain Lake.

Floating on paddle boards on this beautiful lake nestled below Stone Mountain creates the ideal setting for practicing Kali Natha Yoga, a puja (moving prayer) designed to help practitioners awaken spiritually and deepen their awareness. Developed by Ma Jaya Sati Bhagavati, Kali Natha Yoga is a flow series that includes asanas, pranayama, mudras, mantras and meditations. This system of yoga is a profound transformative tool that awakens kundalini energy, increases flexibility and strength, reduces stress and creates peace of mind.

Due to the added challenges of practicing on a floating platform as well as what Mother Nature contributes (wind, current, climate) we are forced to confront elements of our practice that we would otherwise take for granted. Often this means bringing poses back to their basics, even holding a preparatory pose long before expanding it into the full translation in order to position joints,engage muscles, breathe fully, move prana, access potential. Adding this new element to your yoga practice can conjure the very roots from which it sprang forth.

No previous paddleboard experience is necessary, we have that covered! Just as sequencing guides a yoga practice, proper SUP skills, technique and safety are an important part of our workshop instruction so you can be guaranteed an informed and enjoyable class.

Class size is small so register early in order to ensure your space.

Equipment provided:

Paddleboard, paddle, PFD (personal floating device), board leash, anchor.

What you will need to bring:

Wear bathing suit or clothing that can get wet and you can move in comfortably   (you will be in the water), bottled water (no glass please), sun screen, towel (for drying off later). Water shoes/booties are optional.

Where we will meet:

At the boat ramp located on Stonewall Jackson Dr. in Stone Mountain Park. Enter the park at the East Gate (exit 8 from 78 East) and take a left turn immediately after going through the gate. Follow the road past camp ground and over the lake. After going over the lake turn right into the parking lot.

Stone Mountain Parking / Entry fee: $15 per vehicle.

Our instructor Carol Butz is a Registered Yoga Teacher on the 200-hour level,  ACE Certified Paddleboard Yoga Instructor and WPA Water Safety / SUP Education certified. She is currently enrolled in our 300-hour Kali Natha Yoga Teacher Training program.
